Frequently Asked Questions
What is La Hun Manuka Honey?
La Hun Manuka Honey is a rare and special type of honey which only comes out of New Zealand. La Hun's Manuka Honey is derived from the nectar of the Manuka Tree and the honey is harvested only 2-8 weeks of the year.
What makes La Hun Manuka Honey so special?
Our Manuka honey’s antibacterial properties are what set it apart from traditional honey.
Methylglyoxal (MGO) is its active ingredient and likely responsible for these antibacterial effects. (In fact, research has shown that it appears to have activity against E. coli and S. aureus and may help prevent formation of biofilms.) Additionally, La Hun Manuka Honey has antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. In fact, it has traditionally been used to heal wounds, soothe sore throats, prevent tooth decay and improve digestive issues.
What is MGO?
MGO (Methylglyoxal) is the active ingredient which makes La Hun's Manuka Honey so special. The higher the MGO content the higher the grade of honey. A jar that is labelled MGO 83+ would include honey that has at least an MGO level of 83 or more. All of our honey is carefully crafted, nurtured and tested to ensure there is magic in each jar for everyone.
Is La Hun Manuka Honey Ethically Sourced?
Absolutely! All of our honey is only ethically and sustainably sourced from beekeeping farms all around New Zealand.
The market has many different companies that sell 'Manuka Honey' however they do not label their products according to the official MGO/UMF guidelines making it hard to tell what actual grade the honey is. La Hun guarantees complete transparency with our customers and label our jars according to official New Zealand government standards so you can be sure you are getting the real deal every time.
We only work with specialised producers of Manuka Honey in special farms that are geotagged so each jar of honey can be traced back to the exact beekeeping farm it came from.
Does La Hun give back?
Giving back to the community is an integral part of La Hun. Breast Cancer is the second most deadly cancer in the world and we think that is our responsibility to help and give back. A portion of each La Hun jar sold will go towards the Young Survival Coalition based in New York because giving back to us means a lot!
Is La Hun Manuka Honey safe to eat during pregnancy?
Yes! La Hun Manuka Honey is safe to eat while pregnant. There are no recommendations to avoid consuming honey if you are pregnant, unless you have type 1, type 2 or gestational diabetes.
